Reorg

A reorg is a colloquial term for a reshuffling of an organization, referring to "reorganization". Not to be confused with restructuring, which centers around structural changes to support long term goals, reorgs are minor changes with the goal of improvement.

Think of restructuring as a complete renovation of a home: tearing down walls, adding new tiles, and adding new rooms, all in the anticipation of supporting a growing family for years to come. A reorg, rather, is redecorating an existing room: changing the furniture layout, painting the walls, and buying new lighting fixtures. While both can create long-term impact, the latter will likely happen more often.

2022 was a year that saw more tech reorgs than ever before, and the trend will likely continue in 2023. If you're managing one and want support on how to communicate it to your team, here's a guide to help through it.
